It’s no secret that word-of-mouth recommendations and referrals are important in developing strong local business, especially for service-based business—think about cleaning services, roofers, lawn care, real estate services, and so on. In fact, 70% of consumers consult reviews or ratings before making a purchase.1 And, according to a June 2010 Harris Interactive poll of adult US consumers, “71% claim reviews from family members or friends exert a great deal or fair amount of influence on purchase decisions.” (Source: Business Week, October 2008)

Businesses that recognize the impact of user testimonials to spur growth are participating in conversations about their brand on sites like Yelp, Facebook, Twitter, and others. The benefit is a potential move up in search engine results and the ability to influence the decision-making process of people that are actively searching online for specific products and services.

Is this the most effective approach for increasing market share in local neighborhoods where a business is already delivering services? Read More »

Home Staging Videos For Seller Success

Here’s a guest post by QuantumDigital’s Director of Business Development.

Selling your home in any market can be down right stressful and trying no matter how much planning you undergo.
One of the biggest headaches most sellers have to face right from the start is the idea of preparing their home for the market place. House staging is certainly not everyone’s forte. So where do you turn when you need helpful tips and ideas for tackling this kind of project?

If you’re lucky, you might have a family member or a friend that’s been through this process enough times that they can do it with their eyes closed. But, on the other hand, what if you don’t?

I recently had the opportunity to speak with Camilla Sullivan, SVP of Marketing for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate of Parsippany, NJ while at a real estate leadership conference in New York. We were deep in conversation about how emotional and sensitive home sellers can be when they are advised by their agent on what to do with all of the years of clutter they’ve collected.

In many cases, this can be an area of contention between the seller and the agent. That’s when she shared with me how BH&G removes these types of obstacles from the selling process. They have created a series of staging videos that coaches and helps guide their sellers on the various aspects of staging such as how to clean up and de-clutter their home, rearrange and sometimes remove or replace furniture, newly painted walls, pleasant smells, ah…you get the picture.

When the time is right, the agent directs their sellers to the BH&G website to review the videos. After a few days have passed, the agent will then follow up with them to answer any questions or to provide further assistance. This approach takes the burden of being the “bad guy” off the agent’s shoulders.

With this type of creative thinking, there’s no doubt that Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate will continue to find success in growing it’s brand. Other sources of house staging are readily available in various sources. I’ve listed a few below.
